The AuDHD Experience
The Paradox
You might create detailed, color-coded schedules (Autism) but completely forget to look at them (ADHD). This constant internal contradiction is exhausting but entirely normal for the AuDHD brain.
Sensory Overwhelm
Your ADHD might drive you to seek out busy, stimulating environments, only for your autistic sensory profile to become rapidly overwhelmed, leading to sudden shutdowns or meltdowns.
High Masking
Many late-diagnosed AuDHDers are highly adept at masking their traits to fit neurotypical standards. This requires an immense amount of energy and is a primary driver of chronic burnout.
My Coaching Approach
Standard ADHD advice (like "just change up your routine!") can be deeply dysregulating for an autistic brain. Standard autism advice (like "stick strictly to a schedule!") feels like a prison to the ADHD brain.
As a neuro-affirming coach, we work together to:
- 👉 Identify your specific sensory profile to prevent depletion.
- 👉 Create "flexible routines" that provide safety without boredom.
- 👉 Unmask safely and rebuild your self-esteem.
- 👉 Manage energy, not just time, to heal from and prevent burnout.
